Reach Out During National Diabetes Awareness Month

Use This Time to Help Others Understand Diabetes and Its Complications

articles-featured.jpg

November is National Diabetes Awareness Month, and it’s a great time for you to reach out to family and friends who may be at risk for diabetes and teach them what you know. National Diabetes Awareness Month is also a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the resources available to help you manage your diabetes.

Discover Local Support and Events

During November, you’ll find many ways to help Americans understand why they should care about diabetes. Many resources are available online, and you can find several local events in which to participate. Check out the following resources to get involved:
  • Learn about local support groups through your physician’s office or hospital. These can be great ways to meet new people and learn their tips on managing diabetes. Often, health care professionals facilitate local support groups, and help address any medical questions you may have.
  • Visit online message boards. If you like the idea of a support group, but want something more convenient, an online message board might be right for you. It’s important to utilize message boards on reputable sites such as Diabetes Control for Life™. In our growing community, you can post inquiries and insights about the Diabetes Control for Life program on the diabetes and weight loss message boards. Our community helps users get the best support they can as they work to achieve personal goals and maintain a healthy lifestyle.
  • Participate in a Step Out to Fight Diabetes walk. Diabetes walks are great ways to get exercise and help raise money for an important cause. You can view local walks happening in your area at the American Diabetes Association® Web site

Plug In to the Energy

Take advantage of some of the opportunities available during National Diabetes Awareness Month. You’ll find that participation in these inspirational events is motivating, and can give you the momentum you need to stay in control of your diabetes.
